Everything You Need To Know About Us

Established in 2001, but with over 28 years experience in major security construction projects.

We are independent consultants - we don't sell or install equipment or systems, we dont provide security guards, 'bouncers' or close protection.

We don't consult on cyber security, IT or network security.

We are one of the UK's leading specialist security consultancies on all aspects of physical security including electronic security systems, building hardening and their associated policy, procedures and support infrastructure requirements.

Critec Consult personnel have been involved on some of the largest and most high profile security projects in the UK, Europe and the Middle East, including critical national infrastructure, military bases, government facilities, VIP residences, data centres, pharmaceutical research laboratories, utility plants, retail and leisure facilities, universities, transportation facilities, prisons, police stations, manufacturing plants, car parks, bonded warehouses, corporate headquarters, public space CCTV and embassies.

Our personnel have over 28 years experience designing and implementing integrated systems of all sizes, involving intruder detection for buildings and perimeters, analogue and digital networked CCTV, access control, integrated security management systems and physical hardening. We offer expert advice, design and technical services for end user clients and provide support to multi-discipline engineering consultancies and system integrators on complex security systems.

Meet Our Managing Director

Critec Consult Limited was established by Lead Consultant and Principal, Mark Hobday. Mark holds a Bachelor Of Engineering degree in Electronics Engineering, is registered with the Engineering Council, a Member of the Institute of Engineering & Technology (MIET) and a full member of the Association of Security Consultants (ASC).

"Coming from an electronic equipment testing background, I entered the security industry in 1987, joining the Major Systems Division (MSD) of Shorrock Security as a commissioning engineer. MSD only undertook large integrated systems projects, and as such I found myself working on the construction of a missile base as my first security project!!!

Over the next 14 years I progressed from commissioning, through the system design department and project management into a consultancy role within the company, which had by then become Initial Systems. I designed and managed the installation of systems for power stations, critical national infrastructure, utilities, embassies, corporate headquarters, military bases and VIP residences, in the UK, Europe and Middle East. During that period I completed projects with a value approaching £70M

75% of my work has been site based, often on construction sites, which gives me a detailed understanding of not only security technology but also the civil engineering and infrastructure requirements that these systems dictate, including working knowledge of commercial contracts, CDM, H&S and claims resolution. These projects, experiences and roles have been the groundwork to create Critec Consult - a consultancy that has been providing bespoke services to numerous sectors within the security industry since 2001.

We pride ourselves on our personal service and as such, I try to take an active role in every project we undertake."

Our Work Process

Although no two commissions are the same; some may be purely procedural, others design and management - all follow a similar fundamental path to execution.

  • The first stages of any commission are to re-confirm the scope of the commission with the client, as these often evolve slightly from that proposed at quotation stage. This requires us to understand the client's specific threats, risks and business practices. A formal document outlining the commission deliverables, information requirements and programme will then be agreed with the client and team members assembled with the appropriate skills and experience.

  • With the scope defined, stakeholders engaged and the deliverables agreed, we will start to research solutions to the commission requirements to a level of detail dictated by the agreed client brief. Evaluation may include feasability studies, design optioneering, analysis of whole life costs, civils and infrastructure requirements, development of procedures and policy, and ongoing support requirements such as maintenance, response, software licensing and training.

  • An outline solution to the commission requirement will then be agreed and designed in detail, including the production of all supporting documentation, CAD schematics and plans, technical and cost analysis worksheets and reports.

  • The required solution will then be delivered; on time and at the agreed cost - this may be any form of diverse project deliverable, from an audit report, specification documentation and drawings, a tender package, test documentation, training portfolio or an agreed package of contract management or client representation- all dictated by the originally agreed client brief.

Our Clients

Although a small quantity of our projects involve NDAs or are sensitive in nature and must remain confidential, we are proud to be able to advise just some of the organisations to whom we have provided services.
